Easter Egg Hunt

Show Jumping Course Added

We have added a Show Jumping Course in Scotland for you to practice your jumping. All-breed of horses are allowed. There are 11 obstacles for the whole course and you might want to familiarize yourself with the jumping order before trying out.

Proper rider/show jumping attire would be preferred but not necessary. Should you need to purchase or customized an attire, you can approached Lacy217 McLuhan.

Wanna be Miss Scotland? Here's your chance! CW McMillan has organized a Miss Scotland contest and the search has begun.

To participate, just purchase 1 ad panel placed on the beach at Eilean Donan for L1, place a nice picture of yourself in it and enter your name on the contest board. Not too difficult right? Anyway, if you encounter any problem, do contact CW McMillan. She is a nice and friendly person.

Fridays and Saturdays are voting days whereby you get to vote for anyone in 1 of the 20 ad boards. On Sundays, a monthly winner will be announced and the search for the next monthly winner begins. Every monthly winner will also walk away with some mystery gifts.

At the end of the year we will have 12 monthly winners (hopefully), the best amongst these 12 will be crowned Miss Scotland.

Teleporting To Various Locations Of Scotland, Eilean Donan And Kahlo

We have setup a teleport system right in front of the Scotland Welcome Center. Using it to teleport to any of our 3 sims is easy, just follow the 3 simple steps here:

1) Click on the teleport system
2) Click the Chat button on the bottom menu bar, you can also proceed with this step first then click the teleport system
3) Click on any of the links shown on the chat history and you will be teleported to the requested location (almost) immediately (barring any hiccups)

Note: Teleporting to any location in Scotland from Scotland is not possible at the moment due to a setting issue.

How To Operate Scotland Tours

We would like to show you how to use our new Scotland Tours' vehicle in this post. This newly added system is relatively easy to operate and we will show you how in the following picture.

(1) indicates the tour vehicle whereby all you need to do is SIT on it using your pie menu. This vehicle can take 2 avatars comfortably for a tour around Scotland region and we intend to upgrade it subsequently to go around Eilean Donan and Kahlo regions.

(2) indicates the board where you will need to left-click in order to start the vehicle's "engine". Click it and the vehicle will move you around. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Dangerous QuickTime Security Flaw

2007-12-01T11:39:00.000Z

Linden Lab has sent a warning about a dangerous exploit in QuickTime which may allow an attacker to crash or exploit the viewer. This exploit affects QuickTime usage on every platform.

It is believed that the exploit works when someone comes nearby and is within view of a bugged object, the viewer activates QuickTime so it can play the stream. In doing so, QuickTime directs the viewer to a web site. By exploiting the flaw in QuickTime, hackers can direct the viewer to a malicious web site that then allows them to take over the avatar or they could create a program embedded in an avatar's and have it activated in a way that a passing avatar would have no clue whatsoever that it had just been pickpocketed.

Linden Lab's advice is that you disable streaming video playback in the viewer except when you are attending a known and trusted venue.
- Open your Preferences dialog
- Uncheck "Play Streaming Video When Available" checkbox on the "Audio & Video" tab

Billboards/Ad Boards Still Available

We have a few billboards (a.k.a. ad boards) still available. They are positioned strategically near to the teleporting point as well as the path to the street of the Royal Mile.

The billboards are easy to use and configure. If you want to rent, just find an available billboard and pay 100L for EACH week you want this billboard.

After having paid, you will be able to set your personal landmark, picture, sound and notecard. You will receive a message one week, one day before the end of hiring and one when the hiring finish.

You will receive IM when interested players click on your billboard except when you are disconnected though you can desactivate this feature. Click the billboard for a helpful note card if you need extra information or you encounter any problem configuring the billboard.

Scotland Weekly Delayed

Sorry folks, due to some improvements (we hope they are) being added to the blog. The Scotland Weekly will be delayed for a while. It is not shelved and will be back pretty soon.

You might like to use the new comment system from Intense Debate that has just been implemented as well as a preview sytem from Snap.

We have also added a PayPal's Donation Button linking to the SL Scotland Maintenance Fund on the right side of the blog. This fund would be used to help keep the sims going. Every pound and penny counts.

West of Ireland Music Festival

Dear members,

Scotland has reopened and thanks to many recommendations, we are seeing many and more residents dropping by for a visit. This is definitely a good sign for the new-looked Scotland. We are pleased with the results so far but we will still continue to strive and work towards providing you with a wonderful environment.

RENTAL NEWS
We have some cottages at Kahlo available for rent. Check the parcels for rental details. The parcels have been divided in such a way that you can now add your own movie and music streams.

Our advertising boards near the Welcome Area are also available for rent for 100L per week. Simple to use, just pay the board, add your textures and landmarks. These boards work on a first-come-first-serve basis. So hurry and pick a good spot.

JOBS
- We need some volunteer greeters to help us and if you would like to help out in Scotland, do send Lacy217 McLuhan a note card informing her of your interest.
- Our Pipe Band and Drum Corp is also looking for new members. Contact Jenna Tapioca now for more information. The Pipe Band and Drum Corp plays for weddings, concerts, parades and other events.

COMING EVENTS
Events for this week are as follow:
- Our Weekly Sunday's Ceilidh is back from 11:30 A.M. - 1:30 P.M. PDT in Nessie's Pub. DJ Kimber will be your DJ for the event.
- There will be a “Best in Prom Wear” contest during the ceilidh, we will be looking a male & a female avatar that look good in prom wear, L$200 for best male and female.
- DJ Angus will be taking time off for his wedding so he won’t be performing on Friday.
- West of Ireland Music Festival will be on from 26th-28th October. Don’t miss it! Scotland and the Tartan Shop is a gold sponsor for the event.
- There will be an “Ice Skating Halloween Costume Party” on Saturday 27th October @ 12 P.M. PDT.
- Ski races and some water events are coming up as well. Watch this space for more information.

WHAT'S NEW
*SCOTLAND*
- Try to make use of the Interactive Scotland Map at the Welcome Area. It should be able to give you an overall view of all the different areas of the 3 Scotland's regions.
- We have added a “Randal Greeter” at the Welcome Area. The “Status Indicator” will indicate whether the real Randal is Away/Busy/Online/Offline. You can also use it to drop note cards to Randal as well as to tip him.

- There are more shops now than the old Scotland. Do check out what the vendors have for sale.
- Don’t forget to venture into the hidden underground closes of Mary King's Close to uncover the blood-curdling tales of ghosts and murders, and myths of plague victims being walled up and left to die.

*EILEAN DONAN*
- If you'd like to get married or to host any special events at the Eilean Donan Castle, info card can be obtained from the castle or from any of the staffs on duty at the Scotland’s Welcome Area.
- Check out the "Loch Nessie" beach while you are at Eilean Donan, we have added the “Nessie Ride” and “Inner Tube” games there for some fun and entertainment. We have to thank Trippi Bellami for his wonderful creations.
- Getting bored? Head to Ski Scotland for some snowboarding or skiing games and challenge others for the highest score.

*KAHLO*
- Our recreation of a mini-picturesque village of Dornie is taking shape here and now we have some cottages available for rent. Don't forget to check the cottages for details.
- The old giant ice rink of Eilean Donan has been shifted here and do check out the Skate Scotland at the ice rink to get your ice skating accessories and attires.

The event is on 11 October @ 6PM PDT.

Scotland will be reopening officially on Monday! Many changes were made during the remodelling. Take some time and explore the new landmarks added if you have not done so.

RENTAL NEWS
A new rental rate of 10L/prim/week has been set for all shops, kiosk carts and the St. George Area but at the moment only kiosks are available at 150L/week for 15 prims.

We have added 6 advertising boards near the Welcome Area. They are available for rent for 100L per week. You can add your textures and landmarks on the boards.

- Major changes here at Scotland, once you landed at the teleporting point, you should see an Interactive Scotland Map (Thanks to Trippi Bellambi). This map will be able to guide you and teleport you to different areas of the 3 regions.
- Let’s go through what we have added here: Walter Scot's monument and garden, stores, kiosk carts, Nessie’s Pub, Armadillo Stage Area, stone circle with an interactive campfire, campfire place and a church.

Hopefully you are aware by now that Scotland will be temporary inaccessible for residents from 1st October – 7th October for a remodelling project. Scotland will reopen once the remodelling work is done.

All activities will be diverted to Kahlo instead during the affected period. We apologize for any inconvenience.

* SCOTLAND / KAHLO *
- Scotland will be closed for a week from 1st-7th October for terra forming and remodelling works. Please head to Kahlo instead during the affected period.

* EILEAN DONAN *
- During the last issue of the weekly, we mentioned about a plan for a week- long event of Highland games that include Tug-O-War, Snowboarding, Nessie's Ride etc. Well, the snowboarding and tug-o-war games, created by Trippi Bellambi, are available for evaluations now. The snowboarding game is at the top of Eilean Donan’s new snow mountain while the tug-o-war is in front of Trippi’s store. Get a hang of things before the event starts and do give your feedbacks to Trippi so that enhancements can be added and bugs fixed if any.
- Do consider the Eilean Donan Castle for your wedding or any special events. It is an ideal place for the romantics. For more information, please obtain a note card from the castle itself or any of the staffs.

Closing of Scotland For Remodeling

Scotland will begin its remodeling from 1st to 7th October. It will be modelled after the Royal Mile. As such the sim will be closed for the period. A new TP point will be chosen and more information will be available once the date draws nearer.

There will be changes in the renting of commercial spaces after the remodeling. The current open rental system will be removed and rentals will be by invitation and approval only. Preference will be given to established vendors. Please read the note card sent by Lacy recently.

Scotland Weekly Issue #27

Dear members,

Let's start with a summary of the group meeting held last Friday. It was a fruitful one for the management team as we got many constructive and valuable suggestions for remodelling of Scotland and what people would like to see in Scotland.

As a result of the discussion, we have started works on a SL replica of the Royal Mile, Mary's Close and an Armadillo Concert Stage. Highland games and many other areas were also covered and worked out too. Just stay tuned for more updates!

By the way, still enjoying the win over France at the Stade de France? Someone (not going to name the person) had planted a Scotland flag on the SL's Eiffel Tower. The snapshot is on the plasma screen in Nessie's Pub if you wanted to have a look.

No More Scotland Weekly?

We have taken Scotland Weekly off the radar for a week or two due to the Scotland's Meeting last week, on-going rebuilding works and the preparation for the one year anniversary of Scotland sim.

The weekly will be back as soon as things settled down. Till then you might want to drop by Scotland and check out the event board and posters at Nessie's Pub for updates.

We also have a few ad hoc events hosted by some of our DJs. So when you are inworld, do check the map as well for the events.

Dear members,

As part of improving communication to our group members, we will be adding two new sections, namely "Editorial" & "Letters to the Editor".

If you wish to write a letter to the editor, please send your note card to Randal Kline. Any issues raised would aid us in finding out what people are feeling about the Scotland SIMs and allowing us to address them appropriately.

EDITORIAL
Greetings

I am going to use this new editorial feature to discuss issues that arise on the Scotland SIMs and my position regarding these matters.

The current issue seems to be BANNING PEOPLE IN SCOTLAND.

There is a set of the SCOTLAND SIM POLICIES at the information desk next to the TP point for you to read in detail, but basically anyone who violates either the Second Life TOS Agreement or the SIM’s rules will be banned by me or one of the Scotland’s staffs.

Hopefully, we will have time to give you a warning and ask you to stop the behaviour first before banning. Unfortunately, sometimes things happen very fast and we can't always do that.

As Scotland’s SIMs owner, I do have the rights to decide what type of behaviour I find acceptable on the SIMs regardless of the Mature or GP rating.

For Scotland’s SIMs, I would like to have a nice friendly environment and do not find nudity, vulgarity, weapons, verbal harassments or threats of physical violence acceptable. I do not apologize if this conflicts with the basic nature of some Scots who like to be vulgar and/or violent. I find them to be offensive. So no matter what your country of origin is you will be banned if you violate the rules.

I, as a SIM owner, reserve the right to ban anyone who personally offends me. This may be in regards to Scotland or a personal Second Life issue.

No person is ever banned without a justifiable reason, no matter what they claim.

People seem to think that abusing others verbally through the IM system is alright because it is not in the open chat channel. However, if someone sends me complaints about being abused and is able to send me chat logs or the IM in question for justification, it will be sufficient enough for banning.

We are working on a new ban appeal system on the Scotland’s SIMs similar to the “The Procurator Fiscal” system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procurator_Fiscal) which exists in Scotland.

If you feel you have been unjustly banned you can send a request for review. However, as landowner, I reserve the right to permanently ban people from my SIMs based on the severity of the offence. I am willing to publish a list of these individuals. All others past and present can summit a review request to the Procurator Fiscal.

Recently people have been claiming to have been banned for no reason or on a whim of my staffs. This is completely untrue and we have documented this by chat logs to the Lindens.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please send me a note card.

I hope you all enjoy your time spent in any of the Scotland’s SIMs.

If you ever see people violating rules or being offensive while you are a guest on the Scotland SIMs, please contact me or one of my staffs immediately.

Judging and awards will be on Sunday September 30th.

There have been many cases of scams reported lately in several Second Life's related forums. We would like to take this opportunity to warn you of one such tricks that scammers are deploying.

Scenario: Land does not have any autoreturn set. Scammer will add another layer in front of an item for sale. Instead of paying for that item, you have instead paid the scammer. So always make sure you are dealing with the right person.

L/S Pro Skating Hud and Pro Figure Skates

For those that are interested in ice skating, now you can skate like a pro using the L/S Pro Skating Hud and Pro Figure Skates located next to the ice rink in Scotland. You have a choice of white or black for the skates. The hud will enable you to do a variety of skating tricks and stunts.

Dear members, we have received information about a script that is able to empty your L$ account. and we would like to let you know about it.

This script can be embedded in any object (drinks, animals, gifts etc.) so do take care when accepting things from strangers and even people that you know too. This script will ask for your permission to take L$ from you, look out for that huge yellow pop-up box, DO NOT click Grant or Accept as it will empty your L$. Deny permission whenever you are not sure cos once permission is granted, there is nothing much you can do to stop the transaction.

What To Do When Your Account Is Compromised?

If you can’t access your account; or you suddenly notice a reduced available balance on the payment source you have on file. Follow the steps below:

- Login to your account
- Login to the Support Portal
- If you cannot log into your account, use the Guest Access Log In
- Submit a Ticket
- In the Ticket Type Field, select "Special Questions – Basic Account or Guest Login" from the drop down menu
- Then select "My account has been shut off and I don’t know why"
- Fill in the rest of the fields as directed
- Copy the Tracking Number for your new ticket
- You will receive an email containing your ticket information
- Call the Fraud number: 800-860-6990

Update On SL Asset Server Issues

Linden Lab had narrowed down the asset server issues to be hardware related and had re-routed the asset traffic to other servers. Things should be returning to normal.

As of Wednesday, June 13th, 2007 4:04PM, Second Life is still having problems with the asset server.

They may include inventory loss, objects rezzed may not load and may not return to your inventory.

Linden Lab have advised us to be cautious about using our inventory during this time.

Puzzle Game Added

You should be able to find it just outside Nessie's Pub.

Rules of the game are displayed on the side so you know what you are playing.

We are looking at a possibility of having an adult club, tentatively called Sexy Scots at Kahlo. It will be very isolated and there will a need to buy a pass in order to get in. There will be no interference to the normal activities at Scotland, Eilean Donan or other parts of Kahlo. Feedbacks are welcomed.

The exhibition includes photographs taken at the World Pipe band Championships 200, Proms on the Park and the world famous People's Palace.

The exhibition will run from 31st May - 19th June.

Snapshots viewer @ Nessie's Pub

A plasma snapshots viewer has been added to the Nessie's Pub.

Do spend some time if you can and have a look at what others have snapped during their stay around the 3 sims.

You can send your snapshots to Randal Kline in-world if you want to contribute to the snapshots viewer.

One good way to send many snapshots is to drag and drop them in a notecard and send it over.

Please make sure that your snapshots come with full permissions, else they would not be able to slot into the viewer.

Workaround For Missing Texture Bug

Seems like many are having this problem of "missing" textures when creating. Here is a workaround taken from JIRA:

Workaround : Put any Texture or Snapshoot in the root of your inventory, not in any sub-folder.

No need to copy all your textures, a single one is enough to 'unlock' the selector.

Open your Textures folder, pick a single texture in it, no matter which one, right click it, Copy.

Go back to the top of your Inventory window, Right click the Inventory folder, Paste.

b) We have placed some games in the upper deck of Nessie's Pub. There is a free-to-play Kick And Win soccer game where you can win L20 if you can hit the target. Each person gets to play 5 times per 100 shots. A pool table has been added too and you can get the instructions on how to play it from our blog. By the way, our old dart game is still there.

c) A Sploder has recently been added to the pub. Throw a mini party there and have fun with it.

d) There is a Starfruit phone booth in front of The Tartan Shop. Use it to send free (limited) SMS text messages. Simply type /8 help to get information on how to use it. You can also use it to look for cool places in SL by clicking on the instruction sign inside the phone booth to teleport to another phone booth around SL.

e) Another addition, if you have not noticed, is the sunbath raft at Eilean Donan. It is located near the surfing spot. Head there to relax by yourself or with a few friends. Enjoy the great views too while you are there!

How To Enjoy A Game Of Pool At Nessie's Pub

PLAYING A GAME
Once the table is set up...
1. Click on the table
2. Select the number of players
3. Select the game type
4. Wait for player 2 to click on the table if necessary.
5. Pay the table L25 (1 Player) or L50 (2 Players) within 30 seconds to start your game.
6. Click on the table and select "begin" to start or "cancel" to refund the money you've paid.
7. When the game gives the message "Game started, break shot", the game is now in progress. The person who initiated the game can click on the table to begin his or her shot.
8. On a break shot and normal shots you can adjust the power level by using the up and down arrow keys.
9. On non-break shots, you can aim by lining yourself up between the cue ball and the object ball. You can fine tune that aim with the left and right arrow keys.

GAMEPLAY TIPS
1. When you're making a shot, a menu will pop up. On that menu, you'll see the option "get helper". Click on it. You'll recieve a wearable object that will greatly enhance your gameplay.
2. Because of the size of the balls and the nature of SL physics, the balls are actually bigger than they seem. Keep this in mind while making a shot.
3. Power levels are adjusted with the up/down arrow key. You can fine tune the aim of the cue with the left/right keys.

BASIC GAMEPLAY
When it's your turn, click on the table. This will bring up a menu of options. They are: Break, Make Shot, Forfeit and Abort.

Break - This is available only on the first shot. The cue is positioned automatically. You can adjust the power of the break by pressing the up and down arrow keys.

Make Shot - A normal shot. The cue will line up between your avatar and the cue ball. You can adjust the power level by pressing up and down. You can also fine tune the aim of the cue by pressing the left or right arrow keys.

Forfeit - Forfeits the game. You lose.

Abort - Cancel your shot. If you decide a shot isn't to your liking, aborting will allow you to reposition yourself.

Get Helper - The pool table will give you an object called "Pool View Helper". Wearing this will allow the camera to adjust itself and zoom in on your shots. It makes game play much easier.

GAME RULES - 8 BALL
Any time a player fouls, their turn ends.

A foul occurs if:
- A player pockets the cue ball
- The player pockets the 8 ball when it's not the last available ball on the table
- The player fails to pocket a ball of the appropriate type (stripes/solids)
- The cue ball fails to first come into contact with a ball of the appropriate type

GAME RULES - 9 BALL
Any time a player fouls, their turn ends.

A foul occurs if:
- A player pockets the cue ball
- No ball comes in contact with the rail on any given shot
- When making a shot, the cue ball doesn't come into contact with the lowest numbered ball on the table

Three consecutive fouls will end the game in an automatic loss for the player with the fouls.

KNOWN BUGS
- Occasionally the table doesn't correctly identify which ball has been hit by the cue ball first. Unfortunately there are limitations to the SL collision detection routines when it comes to small objects such that the collision event doesn't always accurately trigger.
- Balls sometimes hang on the rail, stubbornly refusing to move.

llGiveInventoryList not working

The llGiveInventoryList function is not performing as intended at the moment and its functionality is impaired. Instead of an object's contents being copied to a new folder in inventory, the items are placed by type, ie. notecards in the Notecard folder, objects in the Object folder etc. and clothing is immediately worn.

Inventory is not lost, just misplaced. Please use the Recent Items tab in your inventory to quickly find these mis-sorted items.

This issue will only be addressed by LL on Monday so just take note!

Scams spotted, be careful

Latest scams created by Rokkah Congrejo have been spotted around SL.

Rokkah has created at least three new objects for sale at L$300 each. One purports to allow you to log other people's Instant Messages, another to allow you to copy other people's inventory (including no-copy items) and the third to get 50% more prims on your land for free.

So do be careful.
